Bachelor of Arts Media Design

I learned during my studies the most important basics of 2D and 3D animation and focused through my major on the creation of 3D modeling. What I learned enabled me as a classically trained fine art painter to create a connection between 2D and 3D concept art and creating designs for unique characters using the digital techniques of painting, 3D modeling and 3D sculpting.

The project is about the creation of different character designs for a small RPG with a very ambitious young shaman as the main protagonist and it shows a development of the characters in the creative process from illustrative 2D concept arts to 3D models. The back story is inspired by elements of shamanistic world and takes place in the early Middle Ages.

The shaman often sneaks deep into an ancient enchanted forest for forbidden magical experiments. Her soul is shattered in two during a magical journey to the otherworld by the accidental casting of an ancient powerful spell. The light part of her magician soul returns to her human body in this world, but the dark part remains in the otherworld and unleashes a reign of terror there. In order to rule over all worlds, her dark self slowly occupies the earthly world as well and hunts for souls with dark spirits. Her light self, assisted by her helping spirits, tries to free the cursed souls, eliminate evil spirits and stop her dark soul in order to save both worlds. The most important characters such as the shaman, her helping bear spirit, an example of an dark spirit, petrified victims and the ruler of the otherworld were developed from illustrative 2D concept art to 3D models.
