As a designer I see myself in the responsibility to deal with socially and ecologically relevant issues and to contribute positively to this with my work. I consider it important to design for people and to work participatively. To be able to take into account given circumstances and to deal with real problems and needs.

Many workshops for people with disabilities have an overabundance of visual stimuli and sounds. This leads to a high level of stress for the employees. To escape these stimuli and to be able to pursue their need for rest and concentration, the employees are often dependent on the support of the supervising staff.

Freio” is a decive that allows employees to escape the stimuli and find their own focus during their activities. “Freio” is always accessible and easy to use. It requires no assistance from the supervising staff, and it is clear to fellow employees whether the user is ready to communicate or wants to be undisturbed.

“Freio” was developed in close cooperation with two people with disabilities, all development steps were carried out together with these persons. Through that, “Freio” is perfectly adapted to their true wishes and needs.
